Psalm 100: Praise out of Thankfulness

A psalm. For giving grateful praise.

[Preliminary Comments: As the title says, simply a psalm for giving praise that is based on thankfulness.]

v.1 A call to all to shout to God with joy

v.1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

v.2 Let that call be glad worship using music

v.2 Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come before him with joyful songs.

v.3 Why? Because our God is our Shepherd

v.3 Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

v.4 So let’s go the temple full of praise and thanksgiving

v.4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.

v.5 Why? Because He is good and loving and faithful for ever

v.5 For the Lord is good and his love endures for ever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.

[Additional Comments: Worship, we are reminded, is to come out of relationship, gratefulness for what our God has done for us. Worship may not be songs, but songs can aid or express worship. The important thing is that it comes from the heart, reflecting what we have discovered by word and experience of our God.]

After perhaps going back and meditating on individual verses, now read it meaningfully out loud straight through

    come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures for ever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.
