Psalm 70: A simple cry for help
For the director of music. Of David. A petition.
[Preliminary Comments: A very simple petition for the Lord to come and help him against those who would seek his downfall.]
v.1 A cry to the Lord to help him
v.1 Hasten, O God, to save me;
come quickly, Lord, to help me.
v.2 His desire for those who seek his downfall to be dealt with
v.2 May those who want to take my life
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
v.3 May they be brought to shame
v.3 May those who say to me, ‘Aha! Aha!’
turn back because of their shame.
v.4 May those who seek the Lord be vindicated
v.4 But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
‘The Lord is great!’
v.5 Repeat of his cry for help from the Lord
v.5 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
come quickly to me, O God.
You are my help and my deliverer;
Lord, do not delay.
[Additional Comments: Prayers can’t much more simple than this. Lord please help. Lord please deal with those who desire evil for me.
